Pearl Jam was the most popular and enduring American rock & roll band of their time. Much of this earnestness stemmed from Eddie Vedder, a lead singer of uncommon charisma and passion. Pearl Jam, the band broke into the mainstream with its debut album, Ten, in 1991. It is considered one of the most influential bands of the 1990s. Pearl Jam was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 7, 2017, in its first year of eligibility. The band had sold more than 85 million albums worldwide, and nearly 32 million albums in the United States by 2012. The group is considered 'the most popular American rock & roll band of the '90s' by AllMusic.
