Bio

Green Day is one of America's most famous and influential rock bands. They are mainly known for their timeless hits 'Wake Me Up When September Ends' and 'Basket Case.' Their breakthrough album Dookie is regarded as one of the most defining albums of the '90s. Their career peaked with 2004's Grammy-winning international success, American Idiot. The band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.

Life & Career

Green Day arose from the Northern California underground punk scene as Sweet Children. By 1989, the group had added drummer Al Sobrante and changed its name to Green Day. That same year, the band independently released its first EP, 1000 Hours. Debut full-length 39/Smooth and the Slappy EP arrived soon after in 1990. The band's third album, Dookie, was their major-label debut in 1994. Dookie sold over five million copies in the U.S. alone; it would eventually top ten million in America. In 2004, the band released American Idiot, a chart-topper and multi-platinum Grammy winner. Green Day released three new albums in 2012 and 2013. The band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2015. In early 2020, they returned with their 13th studio album Father of All... The album represented a different approach for the band, with a short running time of fewer than 30 minutes. It had songs that tended more toward glam, soul, and anthemic rock than Green Day's usual punk.
