Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American singer, songwriter and dancer. Dubbed the "King of Pop", he is regarded as one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century and is also regarded as one of the greatest entertainers of all time. Jackson is also remembered for his philanthropy and pioneering efforts in charitable fundraising in the entertainment industry. In 1993, he was accused of sexually abusing the child of a family friend; In 2009, Jackson died of acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication, after suffering from cardiac arrest. Jackson's death triggered a global outpouring of grief, and a live broadcast of his public memorial service was viewed around the world.
