Bio

Shakira is a highly successful Columbian pop artist, best known for her shimmering belly dance moves in the video of the song 'Hips Don't Lie.' Since becoming a superstar in Latin America, Colombian-born Shakira has been the most popular female crossover artist ever since Jennifer Lopez. Noted by her fiery, rock-influenced approach, Shakira retained an unprecedented degree of artistic control over her music; she wrote or co-wrote almost all of her own material, and became one of Latin music's most ambitiously poetic lyricists. When she released her first English material at the end of 2001, she became an instant pop sensation.

Life & Career

Having a strong interest in music since childhood, Shakira wrote her first poem when she was just four. As a teenager, she started performing around her town and attracted the eye of local theatre producer Monica Ariza, who introduced her to 'Sony Colombia' executive Ciro Vargas. She released her first record, 'Magia,' when she was just 14. Her big breakthrough came in the form of her third album, 'Pies Descalzos,' which peaked at number one in eight countries. She also received a variety of awards and nominations for the album and became popular overnight. Her success in Latin music inspired her to try her hand on English-language songs. Her first attempt at the English-language album 'Laundry Service' was multi-platinum and is considered to be the most successful album of her career. She sang 'Try Everything’ for the movie 'Zootopia' that was released in 2016. In 2018, she took part in her sixth World Tour titled 'The El Dorado World Tour.'
