The Red Hot Chili Peppers were one of the most original rock groups of the '80s. The band combined funk and punk rock with an explosive stage show. The group was inspired by the L.A. punk scene and Parliament-Funkadelic. Their stage gimmick - performing on-stage completely naked, except for a tube sock - is their trademark. Their third album, One Hot Minute, was a sizable hit, but it failed to match the success of its predecessor, BSSM. The band's fourth album, 2004's Red, was their last with former Parliament guitarist Blackbyrd McKnight and former Dead Kennedys drummer D.H. Peligro, who both left the group. The band took an extended hiatus from music in the early 2000s. Josh Klinghoffer's first album with the band, the Rick Rubin-produced I'm with You, was released in 2011. Red Hot Chili Peppers released their 11th album, Getaway, in 2016.
