Javed Bashir is a Pakistani playback singer known for his work in the Pakistani and Indian music industry. Bashir grew up singing and started qawwali training with his father, Ustad Bashir Ahmed Khan, who himself is a well-known qawwal. Bashir made his debut in 2001 with the song ‘Deewane Nachde’ but it was when he joined the international Sufi rock group, the Mekal Hassan Band is when he got his lucky break. His work on Sampooran, the band’s first full-length album in 2004 earned him mainstream appreciation and success. After parting ways with the band, Bashir has worked on a musical project for Indo-Pak peace with singer Shankar Mahadevan and delivered numerous hits in Hindi, Pakistani and Punjabi films. Bashir, with his younger brother Akbar Ali, were also seen performing the song ‘Naina Moray’ on the 10th season of MTV’s Coke Studio Pakistan.
