Madhushree sings in Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu movies. A familiar voice with A. R. Rahman's compositions, Madhushree, comes from a musically inclined household, formally educated in classical and western music. She has also worked for the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, which teaches classical music in Surinam.
Initially, Madhushree recorded her music on CDs and sent it to the remarkable people of Bollywood. One of those CDs reached Javed Akhtar. She then made her playback debut with Rajesh Roshan's Moksha and went on to sing songs in movies including Yuva, Aayitha Ezhuthu, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Ham Hain Ispal Yahan and Kuch Naa Kaho, Tu Bin Bataye, In Lamhon Ke Daaman Me. She performed three songs in A.R.Rahman's Tehzeeb, for which she was credited as Sujata Bhattacharya. She was a judge of Zee Bangla Saregamapa (2017) with Shantanu Moitra, Kumar Sanu, Jeet Gannguli and Palak Muchhal.
