Broken Social Scene is a Toronto-based ensemble. Formed by Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning in 2001. Group features guitars, horns, woodwinds, violins, unusual song structures, experimental and chaotic production and has explored many stylistic avenues ranging from film music and ambient minimalism to brightly orchestrated Baroque pop.
Broken Social Scene was founded in 1999 by Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning. First album was released in 2001. Guest appearances by Evan Cranle, Bill Priddle, Anthony Seck & Leslie Feist. The album You Forgot It in People proved to be their breakthrough. In 2003, they released a stopgap compilation named Bee Hives. By 2005, Broken Social Scene had grown even larger & kicked off an international tour. The full 15-member edition of the band met again after a long hiatus to record their fifth album, Hug of Thunder. In 2013, they sponsored a literary competition by inviting authors to write short stories inspired by songs from their album You Forgot It in People.
