Adidja Azim Palmer, better known as Vybz Kartel, is a Jamaican reggae-dancehall musician, singer, composer, record producer and an entrepreneur. Among his various nicknames, he is referred to as "Worl' Boss". As summarized by Rolling Stone, he "attained folk-hero status in Jamaica with provocative lyrics, and a mischievous public persona", and "few have captivated audience – or offended the sensibilities of its detractors –as consistently and thoroughly as Kartel."
Vybz Kartel began his career as a teenager in 1993 with his first recording of 'Love Fat Woman' released on Alvin Reid's 'One Heart' label, using the pseudonym 'Adi Banton' as a tribute to Buju Banton. Palmer was later part of the three-member 'Vybz Cartel' group, carrying the name after the group broke up, and became the prodigy of Bounty Killer. From the beginning to the middle of his ongoing career, Kartel released several albums through the U.K. based label Greensleeves Records, such as Up 2 Di Time, More Up 2 Di Time, and J.M.T. He established his label Adidjahiem/Notnice Records in 2006. In January 2020, Kartel released a ten-track album, 'To Tanesha', which was co-produced by Tanesha Johnson with their respective record labels: Short Boss Muzik and Vybz Kartel Muzik.
