Hammock is a musical duo from Nashville, Tennessee. A duo whose ambient soundscapes made comparisons with artists such as Boards of Canada and Sigur Rós, Hammock originated in 2004. The group was originally conceived by Marc Byrd and Andrew Thompson, former members of the Common Children band. Hammock produces ambient music by mixing orchestral arrangements with electronic beats, piano, and droning guitars. They released their debut full-length, Kenotic, on their eponymous label in 2004; The Sleepover Series, Vol. 1 followed a year later. In late 2011 they released Asleep in the Downlights, an EP recorded with Steve Kilbey and Tim Powles. The next two Hammock albums, 2012's critically acclaimed Departure Songs and its 2013 follow-up, Oblivion Hymns gained immense popularity. A year later, a reissue of their 2005 Sleepover Series, Vol. 1 LP coincided with the release of a sequel album, Sleepover Series, Vol. 2. The second album in the trilogy, Universalis, arrived in 2018, with Silencia completing the project in 2019.
