Known for bringing together her Indian-American Heritage to create refreshingly unique and contemporary music, Vidya Vox was born as Vidya Iyer in Chennai, India. After moving to the United States of America at the age of 8, Vox started learning Carnatic music when she was 5. Inspired by her grandmother to pursue Indian classical music, Vox was a part of the Indian Student Association and the Indian Folk Dancer dance teams at her alma mater, George Washington University. She launched her career by producing mashups of Western pop hits and Indian Bollywood music on YouTube in 2015. Vox’s channel has since amassed over 800 million views and 7 million subscribers with her most popular mashup being ‘Closer/Kabira’ with over 77 million views. Vox has also performed at some of the most reputed locations like The White House, Webster Hall, and the National Centre for the Performing Arts (India). She launched EP in 2016 ‘Kuthu Fire’, produced and co-written by Shankar Tucker. Her second album, ‘Mad Dreams’ (2019) like her first album is fuelled by her crystal clear and agile voice that transcends genres.
