Joni Mitchell was one of the finest and most adventurous artists of her generation. Mitchell's gift for writing personal, folk-inspired songs about the thorny side of life and love was inarguable. Mitchell also brought the same smarts and eloquence to glossy pop on her commercial breakthrough, 1974's Court & Spark. She was incorporating jazz and world music into her work long before either was fashionable in American pop music.
Joni Mitchell's landmark 1971 record Blue firmly established her as one of pop music's most remarkable and insightful talents. 'Woodstock' was a major hit; including her anthemic composition 'Big Yellow Taxi.' 'Blue' is considered one of the best-selling albums of all time. Mitchell returned to her roots with 1991's Night Ride Home. Turbulent Indigo was her most acclaimed work in years. She announced in 2002 that Travelogue would be her last album. In 2014, Mitchell helped compile her first box set anthology; Love Has Many Faces. It featured remastered versions of 53 songs from her back catalogue, all dealing with some aspect of love and relationships.
