One of the most groove-oriented acts in the mid-'90s female-fronted trip-hop crowd, London-based trio Morcheeba relied on the sweet, fluid vocals of Skye Edwards and a laid-back mix of fusion, funk, and blues produced by brothers Paul and Ross Godfrey, including hip-hop, jazz, chillout, and reggae.
Morcheeba's debut album, Who Can You Trust? was released in 1996 and fitted into the trip-hop genre through a mixture of Paul Godfrey's hip hop roots, Ross Godfrey's psychedelic rock influences, and Edwards' soul-styled vocals. The band collaborated with Hubert Laws to record the classic song 'Summer Time' for the Red Hot Organization's compilation album Red Hot + Rhapsody in 1998. The band released their fifth studio album, The Antidote, a few years later after having taken a long break that lasted several years. Ross Godfrey and Skye Edwards announced a new collaboration called Skye & Ross in 2016, after which their latest album, Blaze Away, was released in 2018.
