Popularly known as 'The Humma Girl,' Shasha Tirupati is the award-winning Indo-Canadian playback singer, songwriter, music producer/arranger, motivational speaker, theatre actor and voice-over artist of Kashmiri descent. Tirupati has sung songs in more than 13 languages with over 200 songs to her credit as a vocalist. She plays the kazoo (African instrument), western classical guitar, keyboards and harmonium.
Tirupati started performing on local radio stations in Vancouver, Canada, at the age of six. She received most of her initial musical training from Kamala Bose in Allahabad. She also trained under Padmashri and Padmabhushan Girija Devi of the Benaras Gharana. Tirupati was the first RedFM Idol, a talent hunt held by Vancouver radio channels REDFM 93.1 in 2005. Tirupati was noticed by A. R. Rahman during Coke Studio Season 3, shortly after which she sang a solo for him, 'Vaada Vaada' in Kochadaiiyaan 2014. She toured extensively with A.R Rahman throughout the decade. 'String of Air' is her first independently released single. She collaborated with playback singer, Chinmayi Sripada for her fifth original composition, to be a bilingual track, titled 'Yezhundhu Via' in Tamil and 'Roothi Hui' in Hindi in 2020.
