Two-time winner and five-times nominee of the Academy Award, Allah Rakka Rahman known professionally as A. R. Rahman is noted for integrating Indian classical music with electronic & world music along with traditional orchestral arrangements. He is popularly known as the man who has redefined contemporary Indian music, earning him the nickname “Mozart of Madras.”
Rahman's film career began in 1992 in his backyard recording and mixing studio - Panchathan Record Inn. His breakthrough among Western audiences came with Slumdog Millionaire. He composed a Punjabi song for the opening ceremony of the London Olympics; and is also a prominent activist and philanthropist, donating and raising funds for a variety of causes.
