In the early 2010s, Lianne Charlotte Barnes, known professionally as Lianne La Havas, arrived with a primarily acoustic and hushed mix of alternative folk and soul. Influenced by Lauryn Hill and Nina Simone, she found success with the release of her debut album, Is Your Love Big Enough? Earning her a nomination at the 2012 BBC Sound poll.
In 2010, La Havas signed with Warner Bros. Records, spending two years developing her songwriting, before releasing any music. La Havas' debut studio album, Is Your Love Big Enough? (2012), was released to positive reviews from critics. She continued to refine her increasingly distinctive style with Blood (2015), a number two U.K. hit nominated for a Grammy, and her third LP, Lianne La Havas (2020).
