Vesna Zmijanac (born 4 January 1957) is a Serbian folk singer.She started as a kafana singer before being discovered by prominent folk singer, Šaban Šaulić.In 1979 she released her first single and in 1982 her debut album.Zmijanac soon became one of the most popular performers in Yugoslavia, as well as a recognised sex-symbol, fashionista and gay icon.Today she remains one of the best-selling Serbian singers of all time.She appeared in several movies, hosted her own talk shows and participated in reality TV series Survivor Srbija VIP: Philippines (2009) and Farma (2016).In the year 2000 she also published her autobiography, 'Kad zmairišu jorgovani' (When lilacs smell), titled after her 1988 hit-song with Dino Merlin. She was born in Nikšić, present day Montenegro, although her father was from Sisak and her mother from Kraljevo.Her parents divorced when she was a year old and was raised by her grandmother.Zmijanac started singing soon after graduating from middle school.She was married to Miroljub Aranđelović Kemiš, Serbian accordion player and composer.The reasono for their divorce was allegedly Zorica Brunclik, another folk singer, who later got married to Aranđelović.Zmijanac's second husband was Vlada Jovanović, former marketing chief at PGP RTS.The couple divorced soon after Vesna'd given birth to their daughter, Nikolija, who also became a popular singer.
