Shaan is the son of the late music director Manas Mukherjee and brother of singer Sagarika. Shaan began his career as a kid by singing ad jingles. He quickly returned to it after giving it up for a short time, and even started recording remixes and cover versions. Shaan started his singing career singing pop albums with his singer sister & eventually by lending his voice to mainstream Bollywood films. He also hosts the popular show Voice of India. He is considered as one of the most popular voices for romantic as well as melodious songs. He has sung songs of different genres such as pop, sad songs, patriotic, jazz, ghazals and hip-hop & also in various languages.
Shaan's first release in 1995 was Q-funk, a remix track. He received the MTV Asia Music Award for his album Tanha Dil for 'best solo album' in 2000. Three years later he launched his hugely successful album Aksar. He has sung vocals for different Bollywood movies & anchored the television show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa on Zee TV, which earned him the 2003 Indian Telly Awards for the Music Program of the Year category. Popular songs by Shaan include his first hit, 'Musu Musu', as well as 'Tanha Dil' and 'Bhool Ja.' Shaan has also acted in the movie, Daman, also starring Raveena Tandon. He has made appearances in his songs in the movies, Zameen and Hungama.
