Simon Green, known by his stage name Bonobo, is a British musician, producer and DJ based in Los Angeles. He debuted with a trip-hop aesthetic and has since explored more upbeat approaches as well as jazz and world music influences. His tranquil electronic sound incorporates the use of organic instrumentation and is recreated by a full band in live performances. Green's work has attained a cult following, and he has collaborated with a variety of other artists.
Green, an almost silent figure among Ibizan romanticists, started in Brighton, England, debuting in 1999 with a track on the compilation When Shapes Join Together on Tru Thoughts Recordings. After the official issue of the Scuba EP and the 'Terrapin' single, Green stayed with Tru Thoughts for the acclaimed debut LP Animal Magic (2000). In 2002, Tru Thoughts issued One Offs: Remixes & B Sides, compiling tracks from various limited vinyl releases as well as Bonobo's remixes for artists such as Amon Tobin and Pilote. In 2009, a performance DVD, Live at Koko, was released, followed by the release of the single 'The Keeper,' which introduced the world to the honey-voiced British soul singer Andreya Triana. Bonobo produced Triana's full-length album, Lost Where I Belong in 2010. Bonobo's fifth full-length album, The North Borders, was released in 2013 & his 2019 track, 'Linked,' was nominated for a Grammy Award.
