Nipsey Hussle rose from the Los Angeles streets with a series of hit underground mixtapes, becoming both a respected rapper and beloved community figure. Earning a Grammy nomination for his critically acclaimed 2018 debut, Victory Lap, he was at the peak of his career when he was murdered a year later in March 2019. Following his death, public outpouring helped push five of his efforts onto the Billboard 200. Also, it resulted in the renaming of the intersection of Slauson and Crenshaw in honour of the fallen emcee.
In December 2005, Hussle independently released his first mixtape, Slauson Boy Volume 1, to moderate local success. In 2010, he released his first All Money In Records mixtape, titled The Marathon. On April 17, 2012, Hussle released a collaborative album with fellow rapper Blanco, Raw. Beginning in 2013, he released various songs from his upcoming mixtape, Crenshaw. In 2016, he released another mixtape, titled Famous Lies and Unpopular Truth. Hussle's debut studio album, Victory Lap, was released on February 16, 2018.
