Neneh Cherry is one of the pioneers of hip-hop. Her groundbreaking mix of genres presaged the emergence of alternative rap and trip-hop, and through the 2010s she has gradually added to a discography filled with similarly unpredictable twists. Cherry got her start in the U.K. post-punk scene & made a mainstream breakthrough as a solo artist with the global smash hit ‘Buffalo Stance.’ Her solo debut, Raw Like Sushi, led to a Grammy nomination.
Cherry co-wrote and was featured on a B-side version of 'Looking Good Diving' Her 1989 album, Raw Like Sushi, was produced by Cameron McVey and 3D of Massive Attack. Cherry was nominated for a Grammy in the category of Best New Artist in the 1990s. Cherry returned with her second album, Homebrew, in 1992. The number 27 U.K. chart entry featured cameos from Gang Starr and Michael Stipe. Cherry returned to the charts in 1994 as Youssou N'Dour's duet partner on '7 Seconds.' In 2013, she collaborated with London duo RocketNumberNine on their album MeYouWeYou. Her long-awaited fourth proper studio album, Blank Project, was released in 2014.
