Generation X (later known as Gen X) were an English punk rock/post punk band from London in the late 1970s, primarily remembered today for being the musical starting point of the career of its frontman/vocalist, Billy Idol.
Generation X was one of the first punk rock bands to appear on the BBC's Top of the Pops program. Unlike other punk bands, Generation X ignored some of the 'rules' and 'ideals' adopted by UK rock bands, their punk was inspired by the British pop of the 1960s.
