Bio

Suresh Ishwar Wadkar is an Indian playback singer. He’s lent his voice to both Hindi and Marathi films. He’s also sung in some Bhojpuri films, Odia albums, and bhajans and Konkani films. Groomed for Indian classical music, Wadkar entered the Sur-Singar competition in 1976 and won the competition. Composer Jaidev offered him the song ‘Seene Mein Jalan’ from the film Gaman in 1978 and he later went on to perform in the film Paheli too. His turning point in films came with Raj Kapoor's Prem Rog in 1982. Following that, Wadkar sang many songs under the R. K. Banner, and he lent his voice for actor, Rishi Kapoor in films like Heena, Prem Granth, Bol Radha Bol, and Vijay among others. He is also a recipient of the 2011 National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer for the song ‘Hey Bhaskara Kshitijavari Ya’ from the Marathi film, Mee Sindhutai Sapka. In January 2020, Wadkar’s name was announced for the Government of India's fourth highest civilian honor, the Padma Shri, for his work in the field of arts.
