Bio

Los Angeles' Slow Hollows are a smart, constantly evolving indie rock combo whose leader, Austin Anderson, managed to produce several high-profile releases in the mid-2010s while still in high school. Between the biting, lo-fi garage punk of his early work to the more introspective new wave tone of 2016's Romantic, Anderson showed an aptitude for quickly absorbing and adapting various facets of pop music from release to release.

Life & Career

Initially working under the name Hollows, Anderson included bassist Jamie Atkinson and drummer Nick Santana. Shifting into a more melancholic mode and belying his youth with a low-pitched laconic vocal style, Anderson and his crew returned in June 2015 with Atelophobia via the artist-run Danger Collective label. By 2016, Anderson had gained a reputation around town and, prior to Slow Hollows' next release, he managed a handful of high-profile collaborations, appearing on songs by Tyler, The Creator and Frank Ocean and even doing some modeling work for Yves Saint Laurent. Released at the end of that year, when the singer was still only 18, Romantic saw Slow Hollows again shifting their approach, with the addition of horns and mellower new wave and dream pop tones shaping their sound. It also featured an entirely new group of musicians joining Anderson, including bassist Aaron Jasonoff, drummer Jackson Katz, and trumpeter Daniel Fox.
