Bio

Metric consists of Emily Haines (lead vocals, synthesizers, guitar, tambourine, harmonica, piano), James Shaw (guitar, synthesizers, theremin, backing vocals), Joshua Winstead (bass, synthesizers, backing vocals) and Joules Scott-Key (drums, percussion).

Life & Career

Metric was formed in 1998 with the name 'Mainstream' when vocalist/keyboardist Emily Haines and guitarist James Shaw met in Toronto. The band's music includes elements of synth-pop, new wave, dance-rock, and electronica. After releasing an EP titled Mainstream EP, they changed the band's name to Metric. The band's first studio album, Old World Underground, Where Are You Now? was released in 2003. It was followed in 2005 by Live It Out, another successful release, and the group embarked on a lengthy international tour before taking a hiatus. The group began working on a new album, Fantasies, which was self-released internationally in 2009. It became the group's most successful album to date, selling 250,000 records in less than a year.
