Bio

Sadhana Sargam is an Indian playback singer known for her expansive career spanning over three decades. Besides film music, she’s also known for her devotional songs, classical music, ghazals, regional film songs, and pop albums. Born into a family of musicians, Sargam performed at the music festival Sawai Gandharva when she was only 4 and sang the popular song ‘Sooraj Ek Chanda Ek Taare Anek’ for Doordarshan at the age of 6. Sargam won a Central Government scholarship at 10 which led to a 7-year stint of learning under the legendary Indian classical vocalist, Pandit Jasraj. She began her career in the early 1980s and has sung nearly 15,000 films and non-film in 34 Indian languages including Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, etc. Sargam is also a recipient of the National Film Award and Filmfare Awards South. She’s also has won five Maharashtra State Film Awards and four Gujarat State Film Awards. She was also awarded the prestigious 'Lata Mangeshkar Award' from the Government of Madhya- Pradesh. She also holds a record for being the first non-South Indian to have won the National Award for a South Indian song.
