Bringing the Golden Age of hip-hop to the 21st century, New York rapper, actor and producer Joey Bada$$ came to fame by releasing a series of underground mixtapes and forming the Pro Era hip-hop group. Influenced by Nas, Tupac, Black Thought, J Dilla, and others, he concentrated on informative street narratives and socio-political problems in his rhymes, smoothing out the sample-heavy productions heard on official debuts B4.DA.$$ (2015) and All-Amerikkkan Bada$$ (2017).
Joey Bada$$ began performing under the name JayOhVee. He made his solo debut in 2013. His first EP, Summer Knights, was released later that year. His second mixtape came out in 2014 & worked with the Pro Era crew, which includes Powers Pleasant and Capital STEEZ. Joey Bada$$' full-length B4.DA.$$ released in 2015, produced by Statik Selektah, DJ Premier, Kirk Knight and Chuck Strangers. His second long-player featured guest spots by ScHoolboy Q, Styles P, J.Cole, and others. The Light Pack EP arrived in 2020 as the rapper's first release for Columbia Records. He also had a recurring role in the second season of Mr. Robot.
