Bio

St. Vincent's Annie Clark excels at subverting rock and pop conventions with her literate, emotionally nuanced songwriting and inventive guitar playing. In 2007, she introduced her genre bending style with Marry Me, which merged elements of indie, rock, electronic and jazz in an unconventional way. Inspired to learn guitar from her love of grunge acts like Nirvana and Soundgarden, her increasing aspirations from there have brought clearer attention to the spectrum of her music and achieved a rare balance between critical and commercial success throughout the years. Clark made her chart debut with 2009's Actor; became the first solo female artist to win the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Album in 20 years with 2014's St. Vincent; and cracked the Billboard Top 10 with the anti-pop of 2017's Grammy-winning MASSEDUCTION.

Life & Career

In 2007, St. Vincent signed a deal with Beggars Banquet, which released her first full-length album, Marry Me. In 2009, she moved to the celebrated British independent label 4AD for her second album. In 2011, St. Vincent reunited with producer John Congleton, and her third album, Strange Mercy, was released in September 2011. She has since made guest appearances on albums by the Mountain Goats, the New Pornographers and others. St. Vincent became the first female recording artist to receive a Grammy in 20 years. St. Vincent received the Best Rock Song award at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards in 2019 for ‘Mass Education.’
