Bio

Daft Punk was a French duo formed by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter. Their first single, 'The New Wave,' in 1993 was their first real hit. Their second hit, 'Da Funk,' sold 30,000 copies worldwide and saw thorough rinsings by everyone from Kris Needs to the Chemical Brothers. Their current recording name derives from a review in U.K. music weekly Melody Maker of a compilation tape Darling was featured on, released by Krautrock revivalists Stereolab. The duo has remained one of dance music's most influential and iconic acts.

Life & Career

Daft Punk was the target of a minor bidding war in early 1996. The band finally signed with Virgin, with their first long-player, Homework, emerging early in the following year. Like the previous songs, the band's sound is a dancefloor-oriented mix of progressive rock, trance, electro, and techno. Daft Punk's album 'Random Access Memories' won three Grammy Awards. In 2014, the pair performed on Pharrell's album G I R L and collaborated with Jay-Z on the single 'Computerized.' A 2015 documentary titled Daft Punk Unchained documents their past from the 1990s to the 2010s, including interviews with Rodgers, Pharrell, and Kanye West, among others.
