Bio

Donna Summer was a singer-songwriter with songs such as ‘Love to Love You Baby,’ 'I Feel Love’ and ‘Last Dance’ and in the 1970s became the 'Queen of Disco.' As many of her peers, she was a gifted vocalist trained as a powerful gospel belter, but she distinguished herself with her songwriting skills, charismatic stage presence, and shrewd choice of studio partners, all of which resulted in continued success. Throughout the 1970s alone, she overtook the Billboard club chart 11 times with high-quality, often-high concept content that included the rapturous 'Love to Love You Baby,' the groundbreaking 'I Feel Love' and a dramatically revamped 'MacArthur Park.' These smash successes represented the disco era of audacious musicality and unfettered eroticism.

Life & Career

Donna Summer's first solo album was 'Sally Go 'Round the Roses' in 1971. She met the producers/songwriters Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte while working on a record for the Three Dog Night. The three teamed up for the single ‘The Hostage’ & even released their first album, Lady of the Night, in Europe. In 1975, Summer co-wrote and recorded a demo version of a seductive disco hit, 'Love to Love You Baby' The track became an immediate success on the U.S. singles chart, skyrocketing to No. 2 and featuring as the titular track of her second album. She only recorded two albums during the 1990s, Mistaken Identity (1991) and Christmas Songs (1994).
