Bio

Popular for his slashing lyrics and smooth, rapid-fire delivery, the Detroit rapper Eminem (aka Marshall Mathers) had found a mentor in Dr Dre. For his major-label release, 1999's The Slim Shady LP, he signed with Aftermath Entertainment on which he channeled his explosive rage into edgy jokes and provocative songs. He continued the trend on The Marshall Mathers LP in 2000, raping, among other provocations, about murdering his wife. His subsequent releases, 2002's The Eminem Show, 2009's Rebound, 2013's The Marshall Mathers LP 2, and more have helped to cement his reputation in the industry. He has picked up several Grammys, including those for Best Rap Song. Marshall's parents were members of 'Daddy Warbucks,' a band that used to perform at a hotel named 'Ramada Inns.'

Life & Career

Eminem was just 14 when he started rapping with his friend Mike Ruby. The pair called themselves 'Manix' and 'M&M' and the latter would in turn become Eminem. The two rappers took part in most of these music events at West 7 Mile, in Detroit. Eminem learned lengthy terms and phrases that rhymed with each other to excel in literature. Eminem initially rapped with a band named the 'New Jacks.' He later switched to the band 'Soul Intte,' which released a single in 1995, featuring Eminem and Proof. The two friends split from 'Soul Intent' and formed their own group in 1996. In 1996, Eminem released his first album titled 'Infinite' In 1997, Eminem developed an anti-social alter-ego named 'Slim Shady' to let go of the tension rising inside him. Dr. Dre helped Eminem release an album named 'The Slim Shady LP' in February 1999, which instantly catapulted him to fame. The same year, Eminem founded the record label 'Shady Records' along with friend Paul Rosenberg. The rapper won second place in the 'Rap Olympics' in 1997. Eminem released an album entitled 'The Marshall Mathers LP' in May 2000, an album that sold almost 2 million copies in the week of the debut. The record-breaking hit 'The Real Slim Shady' was included in the album. The successful rap artist released iconic albums such as 'The Eminem Show' and 'Encore' between 2001-2004.
