Bio

Shankar Mahadevan is a music composer and Tamil-Indian singer. He achieved recognition for his album titled 'Breathless,' wherein he consistently sings without pause. During his youth, Mahadevan studied Indian Classical Music as well as Carnatic Music and started playing Veena at the age of five. An accomplished musician in Tamil cinema, he is a part of the triple team of Shankar Ehsaan Loy providing music to Bollywood films.

Life & Career

Despite being a software engineer by profession, Shankar Mahadevan's interest in music made him venture into the field. He got his first break in Chennai film scores as a playback singer, collaborating with A. R. Rahman and his song in Kandukondain, which won a National Film Award. A leading star in the entertainment industry in Kodambakkam, he later received further popularity by releasing his first album, entitled Breathless. Mahadevan was also a member of the Shankar Ehsaan Loy group, composing music for films from Bollywood. With Louis Banks on keyboards, Sivamani on percussion, Sridhar Parthasarathy on Mridangam and Karl Peters on bass guitar, he enjoys a successful run with Fusion-Jazz band SILK. Mahadevan has also provided vocals for several Remember Shakti compositions featuring masters such as Zakir Hussain, John McLaughlin, U. Srinivas and Selvaganesh Vinayakram. He was also a mentor for the musical reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2009 on Zee TV.
