With over nine million records sold worldwide & known for chart breaking songs like ‘Pompeii,' Bastille initially started off as a solo project of singer & songwriter Dan Smith; combining glossy 80's synth textures & arena-friendly choruses into dramatic yet earnest, brooding yet joyful songs. With hints of R&B, dance, rock as well as overtly political songwriting, the band has took a conceptual and confessional approach so far, influenced by house-music.
Smith began writing songs at age 15 & was placed as a finalist in the Leeds Bright Young Things competition in 2007. He then worked with Ralph Pelleymounter while at University. Smith formed the band with drummer Chris Wood, guitarist/bassist William Farquarson & keyboardist Kyle Simmons in 2010, taking their name from Bastille Day - which also happens to be Smith's birthday! As of November 2014, Bastille have sold over five million records in the US. 2019 saw the band issuing a string of tracks in advance of their third album Doom Days.
