Damizza

Damion Young (born 1974), better known by his stage name Damizza, is an American radio executive, record producer, artist and author best known for his work with Emmis Broadcasting.He was the Senior Director of programming from 1997 to 2004 at the Emmis-owned Power 106 in Los Angeles, and spent considerable time at Hot 97, their New York flagship station.He is widely credited for the development of the “Hip-Hop” format that is still in use today.Damizza is also a record executive Working with artists such as Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, Kanye’ West, P. Diddy, Snoop Dogg, Migos, Nate Dogg, Eminem and Mariah Carey, with whom he made his production debut on the remix of her hit "I Still Believe" in 1998.He also performed as de facto manager & A&R executive; closing the purported $100 million dollar Virgin Records recording contract (largest of its time) and subsequent rebuilding of Mariah’s career including A&R services for comeback single “We Belong together”. Most notable was his bringing Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg together again for the “Chronic Island” radio Promotion that led to the duo getting back together and recording “Chronic 2001”.Damion was instrumental in having Jay-Z write the lead single “Still D-R-E” as well.His work with P. Diddy introduced him to Notorious BIG and Damion in turn introduced BIG to Snoop Dogg and was part of the team that buried the East/West beef by putting them on stage together for the 1st time in Los Angeles.He had just placed “The Watcher PT. 2” on Jay-Z’s “Blueprint 2” album when Jay asked Damion to arrange Snoop’s surprise performance at Hot 97 “Summer Jam” that year. Damion was instrumental in the careers’ of Ja Rule & Ashanti as well - but, caused a major controversy when he wore a Power 106 T-Shirt in the “Between Me & You” video.Prompting rival radio stations to pull the song from their playlists.Subsequently it was blurred out for future showings.
